Most errors occur in recently changed code. Therefore, testers focus on these areas. However, research shows that in practice, a large portion of code changes is still released untested – causing most production defects. To increase the impact of our automation, we need to address this gap! Test Gap Analysis, an innovative method that combines static and dynamic analyses, uncovers these risky, untested code changes during testing. I will share my practical experiences in applying Test Gap Analysis in different teams over the last 10 years, and how many production defects this prevented.
